In the summer of 2007, after an exhaustive 14 months of postproduction on "Sweetheart", it was definitely time to lighten up. At the premiere on June 28, Ian told me about an idea he had that didn't clearly fit into any box. It was unnamed at the time, but it was a satire of the prejudices and misinformation that ran rampant in the 1950's and early 60's. Six weeks later, on my 25th Birthday, we were auditioning actors for "Abraham Lincoln". The script came quickly and was a collaboration between us both. We shot the basement scenes over three days in September and then shot the middle "film strip" section as well as the finale over a weekend in December. The day we filmed the "Dr. Chin's Old Fashioned Abortion Tonic" scene was especially memorable for me because it gave me the chance to work with 4 actors who I admire a great deal but had never done a scene together. What was supposed to be a vacation from the dark themes and unfunny heavyhandedness of "Sweetheart" ended up taking almost as long to complete. This was due to the three month hiatus in shooting due to photography on Cannibal and a break in March to produce Boxing Day. Like the postproduction on Sweetheart, Lincoln involved creative struggles back and forth between Virginia and New York.
The film premiered November 1 @ The University of Maryland. The DVD was released April 1 2009.
